On December 3, 2010 Kalikova & Associates represented by Gulnara Kalikova, Aicholpon Jorupbekova and Murat Madykov attended a mining industry conference “Kyrgyzstan’s Mining Industry Development Trends: Problems and Perspectives” organized jointly by the Kyrgyz Mining Association and Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in Kyrgyzstan. Aicholpon Jorupbekova, partner and head of Kalikova & Associates mineral resources practice made a presentation on the proposed package of draft mining laws pinpointing the novelties supported by the exploration and mining companies and those raising concern for companies.
Kalikova & Associates acted as a co-sponsor of the conference together with the Kyrgyz Mining Association, EITI Kyrgyzstan, Kumtor Gold Company, Caspian Oil and Gas, Kyrgyz Chemical and Metallurgical Plant and number of other companies.
Over the period from November to December 2010, Kalikova & Associates lawyers Omurgul Balpanova, Saodat Shakirova, Alexander Ahn, Karlygash Ospankulova and Maksim Smirnov have made presentations at the training seminars organized by the Union of Banks of Kyrgyzstan for specialists of Kyrgyz financial and lending institutions with the purpose of developing and improving their professional skills. The participants of the seminar have discussed the critical issues of securities market, intellectual property, labor and banking/lending law.
On November 26, 2010, Kalikova & Associates lawyer Karlygash Ospankulova took part in the presentation on corporate governance “Survey of corporate governance practice in the Kyrgyz Republic: results and perspectives». The presentation was organized by the International Finance Corporation and the Authority for Regulation and Supervision over Financial Market under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic. The purpose of the survey was assessing the level of corporate governance in joint stock companies of Kyrgyzstan and revealing problems encountered by them. The presentation summed up the results of the survey and gave recommendations on the development of corporate governance in Kyrgyzstan.
On November 26, 2010, at the annual meeting of the public organization Association of Lawyers of Kyrgyzstan (ALK) Ulan Tilenbaev, partner, and Nazik Satkeeva, lawyer, were elected as the new members of the management board of ALK for a term of 2 years. During the following two years, Ulan Tilenbaev will coordinate the work of the ALK committee on professional ethics, and Nazik Satkeeva will coordinate the ALK committee on development of international relations.
On November 25, 2010, the noncommercial partnership «Assistance to development of competition in CIS countries» (Partnership), in which Kalikova & Associates is represented by its Managing Partner Gulnara Kalikova and lawyer Magomed Saaduev, and the Federal Antimonopoly Authority of the Russian Federation on behalf of the International Council on Antimonopoly Policy of CIS countries (ICAP) signed the Cooperation Agreement. The subject of the agreement is to organize cooperation among the parties to build the efficient state policy in the area of protection and development of competition and the efficient practical implementation of the antimonopoly law in CIS countries. On November 19, 2010, Kalikova & Associates lawyers Karlygash Ospankulova and Asel Momoshova took part in the training seminar on corporate governance «Actual issues of corporate governance». The seminar was organized by the Union of Banks of Kyrgyzstan for lawyers of financial and credit institutions. The seminar addressed the issues of operation of the governing bodies of a company, public disclosure, etc..

On November 11, 2010, in Bishkek, Kalikova & Associates and the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic organized a seminar on public private partnership in road transport sector. Especially for this event, as the speaker of the seminar there was invited Mr. Antony Pearce, a member of Business Consulting Council of the European Economic Commission of the UN, an international expert in PPP. Mr. Pearce shared his personal experience in implementing PPP in road transport sector in various countries of the world. The seminar was attended by the officers of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Ministry of Economic Regulation, and the lawyers of Kalikova & Associates.
On November 3 – 5, 2010, Kalikova & Associates lawyer Nurbek Sabirov took part in the IX Qualification seminar «International treaty and settlement of disputes by international commercial arbitration», organized in Almaty by the UK Royal institute of arbitrators with participation of CCI of Russia, English–Russian legal association, Kazakh International Court of Arbitration and a number of arbitration tribunals of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It is the first time when such seminar is held in Central Asia. Lawyers of the leading law firms of the Central Asian region attended the seminar. Presenters (trainers) at the seminar were David Goldberg (partner of White & Case LLP), Alexander Komarov (member of Presidium of MKAS of CCI of RF), and Vladimir Hvaley (partner of Baker & McKenzie).
On November 5, 2010, in Bishkek, the regular meeting was held of Kyrgyz business community with the representatives of Korean Association of Importers (KOIMA), at which Kalikova & Associates Partner Ulan Tilenbaev took part. The meeting was attended by the representatives of Korean companies interested to importing in Korea food products, package materials, juice concentrates, dairy products, raw materials for medical preparations, mineral resources (uranium, gold, marble, granite, primary products for solar batteries, copper and iron ore, zirconium sand) and other goods.
