Magomed Saaduev, partner, and Shuhrat Akhmatakhunov, lawyer at Kalikova & Associates, participated in the ECA (Europe- Caucasus-Asia) Legal Forum’s 10th anniversary held in Tbilisi, Georgia, from 17th to 20th of June.
The ECA Forum (formerly CIS Local Counsel Forum) is an international legal event conducted annually since 2006. The Forum is the main platform for the wide-scale gathering of leading business lawyers. The Forum brings together partners of leading law firms practicing in CIS countries, as well as senior partners and representatives of international law firms and professional media.
Traditionally, the Forum is organized by RULG-Ukrainian Legal Group with support from BLC Law Office – Georgia.
Kalikova & Associates lawyer, Jyldyz Tagaeva, participates in the Executive Training Program on Extractive Industries and Sustainable Development organized by Columbia Center for Sustainable Investments (New York, USA) from June 8 to June 19, 2015.
The program covers five inter-related areas of the extractive industries value-chain:
1. A transparent and mutually beneficial legal and fiscal framework;
2. A commitment to long-term planning and revenue management at national and local levels;
3. A strategy to leverage investments for broad-based socio-economic development through infrastructure and other linkages;
4. An approach that promotes human rights and integrated development;
5. A system to manage environmental risks and impacts.
The program is designed to equip participants with the necessary skills to promote the responsible development of the extractive industries sector in resource-rich developing countries and to encourage a rich dialogue about best practices from around the globe.
Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic has adopted the Law “On amendments to certain legislative acts of the Kyrgyz Republic regarding the simplification of registration and liquidation procedures of individual entrepreneurs and legal entities”. The President of the Kyrgyz Republic signed the law on May 22, 2015 which goes into effect starting from June 5, 2015.
Lawyers of Kalikova & Associates provided expert assistance to members of Parliament in drafting this legislative act.
On June 4, 2015, the lawyers of Kalikova & Associates will host the seminar for international organizations and their projects in the Kyrgyz Republic.
The seminar will cover the following issues faced by the representatives of international organizations in their day-to-day activities: employment contracts and issues related to obtaining work permits and visas for foreign employees, taxes and social insurance payments, and office lease agreements.
The seminar will be held at Sierra café. We plan to hold the seminar in the informal and cozy setting with a cup of morning coffee.

On May 15 2015, Kalikova & Associates junior lawyer Meerim Talantbek kyzy attended the training course on «Evaluation of Board of Directors” organized by IFC Project on Corporate Governance in Central Asia together with “Audit Plus” audit firm.
The training course covered different approaches and techniques used during the process of evaluation of board of directors. The participants also had an opportunity to apply the received knowledge while reviewing practical exercises during the course.
The participants of the training course included members of board of directors, of the executive body, owners of business, employees of legal departments, etc.
On May 16, 2015, an official ceremony of the 4th Annual "Ak Ilbirs" National Film Award took place at “Manas” cinema. Presentation of awards took place after the contest show of movies that were shot in 2014 and nominated for film awards this year. Screening of contestant-films was held in Cinema House named after Chingiz Aitmatov. The jury consisted of the famous Kyrgyz filmmakers, members of the Union of Cinematographers of the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as the last year winners of the award. Based on the voting, a historical film "Kurmanjan Datka" directed by Sadyk Sher-Niyaz was acknowledged as the best film of 2014.
Kalikova & Associates, being a partner of the Award for the past four years, provides an independent vote count to determine the winners of "Ak Ilbirs" National Film Awards.
During the period from April 18 to 25, 2015, Kalikova & Associates lawyers Ermek Mamaev and Kurmanzhan Dastanbek kyzy attended the training course organized by the International Court of Arbitration in affiliation with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic for practicing lawyers interested in learning how to use arbitration opportunities most effectively.
The training covered tips and techniques used at all stages of arbitral proceedings from drafting arbitration clauses to enforcing arbitral awards. Arbitrators made presentations and shared interesting facts about general practice.
Upon completion of the training course, participants were awarded a certificate.
On April 17, 2015, Kalikova & Associates hosted a delegation of secondary school students at its office. The delegation comprised the students of 7-10 grades of Bishkek secondary school No. 14. The purpose of this event was to acquaint the students with the legal practice of Kalikova & Associates and a career in law in general. Nurbek Sabirov, partner, and Ruslan Sulaimanov and Jyldyz Tagaeva, lawyers, discussed with the students best ways to become a successful lawyer, personal qualities, skills and knowledge necessary to become a high profile expert and shared their success stories.
During the discussion, the students asked questions about the career in law and personal experiences of Kalikova & Associates team.
This event was organized within the framework of the social project: “I consciously choose my successful future” implemented by the Trillionaire Development Center.
Satkyn Beketaeva, Senior Lawyer at Kalikova & Associates, took part in the training course on legislative drafting in the Kyrgyz Republic held in Bishkek from March 5 to April 3, 2015. The course covered the basic principles of legislative drafting process in the Kyrgyz Republic as well as standards and methods of conducting assessments of legislative drafting process in the Kyrgyz Republic.
The course was organized by Training Center for Legislative Drafting at Kyrgyz State Law Academy under the framework of USAID/DFID Kyrgyz Republic Parliamentary Strengthening Program.
On March 31, 2015 Kalikova & Associates law firm hosted a seminar on “Labor issues” through the series of seminars for USAID contractors in Kyrgyzstan which have been initiated by the lawyers of Kalikova & Associates.
Issues of hiring employees and consultants by USAID contractors under employment and service agreements, obtaining work permits, visas and registration for foreign employees were discussed during the seminar by lawyers Shuhrat Akhmatakhunov and Jyldyz Tagaeva, the partner Maksim Smirnov.
During the discussion seminar participants shared their experience in recruitment and obtaining consent documents.
